Grace West Aldridge Seymour, 93, of Snow Hill, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Greenville Inpatient Hospice. She was born March 17, 1925 in the Arba community of Greene County, North Carolina, the daughter of Lemuel Ransom Aldridge and Mary Susan Forrest Aldridge.
Mrs. Seymour graduated from Snow Hill High School in 1941. One of her fondest memories was of being a member of the Eastern North Carolina High School Choir, directed by Mr. Henry Bulluck. On March 9, 1945, she married Raymond Allen Seymour at Las Vegas, New Mexico, where he was serving in the United States Army Air Corps. The Seymours made their home in the Arba community and were married for 51 years. They were life-long members of Hull Road Original Free Will Baptist Church.
Mrs. Seymour worked as a homemaker and later as a sales associate with Belk’s in Kinston, first at the downtown location and later at Vernon Park Mall. She was an avid artisan, crafting handmade dolls and baskets, but her particular love was cooking for family and friends in her community and taking food to those who were sick and shut-in.
Mrs. Seymour was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, and her siblings Gladys Barbara Aldridge Pritchard and Lemuel Ransom “L. R.” Aldridge, Jr. She is survived by her children Mary Wynne Seymour Beaman of Snow Hill, Elvyn Wray Seymour Irwin of Charlotte, and Raymond Allen Seymour, Jr. of Kinston; grandchildren Brian Steve Bostick of Greensboro, Catherine Irwin Hailes (Brent) of Richmond, VA, Robert Zellers Irwin of Charlotte, and Henderson McNitt Irwin of Washington, DC; great-grandchildren Anna Grace Bostick of Vanceboro, Brent Hailes, Jr. and Harper Hailes of Richmond, VA; sister Mary Rose Aldridge Grady of Emerald Isle; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. Her family is especially grateful for care given in her last days by Vidant Home Health and Hospice and by many loving family members and friends.
A graveside service will be held Friday, April 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Hull Road OFWB Church Cemetery, 2984 Hull Road, Snow Hill, NC with Rev. Leon Grubbs presiding. The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home of Mary Wynne Beaman, 1156 Highway 91, Snow Hill, NC.

Celebrating the life of Grace A. Seymour
Thank you for signing Grace A. Seymour's Guestbook
My gma Mamaw was an unique person. A strong independent woman. A leader. I will remember her tasty chicken sallly, those skinless bbq chicken wings, and that singing voice that remained beautiful up until the end. As I moved on into adulthood and found my career at the Census Bureau, little did I know she worked the 1960 decennial Census as a crew leader of Greene County. She helped with the hiring and management of the enumerators. Eisenhower, her favorite, was president. I would go on to work the 2010 and now 2020 decennial in Suitland, MD. I was very proud we shared this Interesting parallel. Bon Voyage Mamaw! ~Hen

Grace was a dear friend for many years. She and my aunt, Ruth Shirley Snead, were very close friends growing up, and I've heard Grace talk about the many fun times they had together. I will miss her.
