Ted D. Sauls, Sr, 65, went home to his Heavenly Father Wednesday morning, April 4, 2018. A native and lifetime resident of Greene County, he was born May 24, 1952, the son of Ned D. and Nell Fields Sauls. Ted graduated from Greene Central High School and later in life received his BS in Criminal Justice from Mount Olive College. Ted was extremely dedicated to the Shine community, Greene County, and his fellow man. He was a farmer, a member of the Shine Volunteer Fire and EMS from the age of 16 until his death, a Town of Snow Hill Police Officer, and a Deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department. Ted served two terms as Sheriff of Greene County and while Sheriff, served as a Board Member of the NC Sheriff’s Training and Standards Commission; after leaving office in Greene County he assumed a position with the Commission as Deputy Director. Upon his retirement, Ted was awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine in recognition of his service to North Carolina and its citizens. Following retirement, he dedicated his time to his family and service to the Lord. Ted was an active member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church.
Ted is survived by his wife of 38 years, Martha J. Sauls of the home; his son, Ted D. Sauls, Jr. and wife, Paula of Snow Hill; his son, Jason W. Rouse and special friend, Jenny Blizzard of Snow Hill; his mother, Nell Fields Sauls of Snow Hill; sister, Cindy G. Atkinson and husband, Ed of Farmville; brother, Barry D. Sauls of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Kennedy N. Sauls and Hailey G. Sauls; nephews, Jordan, Brian, Elijah; and a special cousin, Jeanette P. Moore. Ted was preceded in death by his father, the Reverend Ned Sauls in 2013.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, April 8th, at Free Gospel PFWB Church Family Life Center with Pastor Mike Parks officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Fire Department Honors being rendered.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening April 7th from 6 – 8 PM at the Free Gospel PFWB Family Life Center and other times at the Sauls residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Shine Fire Department, 84 Shine Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580.

Martha, Teddy, Ms Nell and Barry —I’m so very sorry. Ted was a good man, a dear friend. He has always been there for me when I needed help. I pray God wraps His loving, comforting arms around each of you in the days and weeks ahead. May God bless and keep each of you.
