Jacqueline F. Rouse

Jacqueline Freeman Rouse, known affectionately as “Nanny”, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, and the love of her life Billy Rouse, on Friday evening, November 9, 2018.

A native of Greene County, Jackie was born October 23, 1939, to Rufus and Lillian Freeman. She was a homemaker and spent her adult life taking care of her children, grandchildren and even great-grandchildren. In her earlier years she was the bookkeeper for her father’s construction business and later for her husband’s cabinet shop. Jackie was an active member of Faith Fellowship Church in Kinston. She loved going to Sunday services and Wednesday night Bible study where she was surrounded by her church family of whom she cherished.

Jackie was the consummate homemaker, always putting her family before herself and doing all that she could to aide them in any way. A loving, welcoming, and caring manner led her to become “Nanny” to many people she met well beyond her own family.

In 2004 she was preceded in death by her devoted husband and true love, James C. “Billy” Rouse.

Surviving members of her beloved family include her daughters, Debbie Moye and husband, Danny of LaGrange, and Penny Smith and husband, Frankie of Kinston; Nanny’s grandchildren include, Billy Moye and wife, Mara of Winterville, Jessie Wells and husband, Michael of Snow Hill, and Josh Moye and wife, Suzanna of LaGrange; and last but certainly not least are Nanny’s great-grandchildren, Joey Sanders, Max Sanders, Jake Moye, Drew Wells, Gracie Wells, Jamie Moye, Harper Moye and Laura Moye. Very special members of Jackie’s extended family that were always dear to her heart are Pastor Randy and Margaret Spaugh, Tom and Joy Smith, Harry and Sue Smith, and James and Kim Whitley.

A Service of Remembrance and Celebration will be held 7 PM Tuesday, November 13, at Faith Fellowship Church in Kinston with Dr. Randy Spaugh officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the Rouse home, 260 Haw Landing Road, Snow Hill. In honor of Nanny’s love of children and family, please consider memorials in her memory to Riley’s Army that supports children with cancer in eastern NC; they may be sent to Riley’s Army, PO Box 720, Winterville, NC 28590.
