Mrs. Shelby Jean Bizzell Harrell, 82, died Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville. A native of Greene County, she was born October 21, 1936, the daughter of Leland and Adelle Phillips Bizzell. Following graduation from the Snow Hill High School, Shelby attended East Carolina University where she earned her degree in education. A consummate teacher, Shelby retired from the Greene County Schools following a long and full career where she specialized in teaching reading and facilitating the reading labs.
In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years Walter Richard “Ricky” Harrell on March 28, 2006, and her siblings Myrtle B. Letchworth and William “Billy” Bizzell.
Shelby is survived by a niece and caregiver, Rose L. Holt and husband, David of Kinston; nieces, Lynette L. Waters and husband, Glenwood of Kinston and Cindy H. Beaman and husband, Frankie of Snow Hill; and numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In keeping with Shelby’s expressed wishes, a graveside service will be held privately where she will be interred beside her beloved husband, Ricky.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caregivers who had been with Shelby throughout this year; Irma Corbett, Rhonda Teachey, Jordan Barrow and Tootsie Hill.

I was saddened to hear of Mrs Shelby Jean's passing. Not only was she a former teacher of mine but a valued friend of my family and I. She was very supportive when my mother passed away in 2009. My sincere condolences go out to the family.
GOD BLESS MRS SHELBY, TAKE YOUR WELL DESERVED REST. MAKE SURE YOU CATCH SARA G. UP ON ALL THAT SHE HAS MISSED THE LAST NINE AND A HALF YEARS.
