Ms. Brenda Worthington Riley, 71, passed away Tuesday evening, October 16, 2018, surrounded by her family. A native of Greene County, she was born March 1, 1947, the daughter of Mark and Ethel Wells Worthington. Brenda was a graduate of Greene Central High School and a retired cosmetologist. She lived most of her life in the Maury and Ormondsville communities and for more than 20 years was an active member of the Maury Fire and EMS. A Christian, Brenda was a very active member of Ormondsville OFWB Church and truly found great pleasure in serving her family, friends, church and community.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Belinda T. Shirley; and a grandson, Allen Blake Shirley.
Her surviving family includes her daughter, Gina Grant of Ormondsville; sister, Linda Worthington Shields and husband, Artie of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Rachel Cox and husband, Bobby of Grifton, Tyler Shirley and special friend, Megan Ham of Hookerton, Colby Shirley and fiancé, Hannah Smith of Hookerton, Wesley Grant and wife, Lindsay of Winterville, and Sarah Grant and friend, Shae Braxton of Ormondsville; great-grandchildren, Jordan Cox, Lauren Grant, Dyelan Austin, J.J. Jackson, Warren Grant, Harper Shirley, and soon to arrive Emmilee Braxton. Additional survivors include her special friends, Marilyn Young and husband, Marshall of Richmond, Virginia, and Bobby Dunn of Goldsboro; and son-in-law, Allen Shirley of Hookerton.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, October 21, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Reverend Dr. Don Ribeiro and Reverend Roger Tripp officiating. Interment will follow at the Maury Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 – 8 PM at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service and other times Ms. Riley’s residence. Memorials may be made to Maury Fire & EMS, PO Box 217, Maury, NC 28554. Online condolences at www.taylor-tyson.com
