Mrs. Edna R. Smith, 88, passed away Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Born in Lenoir County on November 26, 1929, she was the daughter of Johnnie Joel and Persis Gainey Rouse. A talented cook, she was the master biscuit maker at the original Fast Break in Snow Hill and was instrumental in establishing its reputation for great biscuits. Mrs. Smith resided in the Shine community of Greene County and was a member of Fort Run PFWB Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph T. Smith; a son, Robbie T. Smith; and brothers, Cecil Rouse, Durwood Rouse, Isaac Rouse and Bobby Rouse.
Her surviving family includes her children, Carol Smith Gurganus (Melvin) of Colerain, Johnnie C. Smith (Cindy) of Snow Hill, and Alan D. Smith (Barbara) of Snow Hill; daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Smith of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Jennifer G. Greenwell of Cofield, Timmy Smith, Brandi Bielby, Alex Smith, Joshua Smith and Andreas Smith all of Snow Hill, Carl Christopher Smith of SC and Patrick Smith of FL; great-grandchildren, David Greenwell, Anthony Greenwell, Addison Smith, Logan Bielby, Isabella Bielby, Gavin Smith, Anthony Smith, Anna Smith, Nicholas Smith and Patrick Smith.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday at Fort Run PFWB Church with Pastor Larry Turlington officiating. Interment will follow at the Smith Family Cemetery located on Free Gospel Road.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 PM Monday at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service and other times at the Smith residence. Online condolences at www.taylor-tyson.com
