Mrs. Cleo Elizabeth Simons Beaman, age 89, died Sunday morning, June 17, 2018, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Born April 4, 1929, in Edgecombe County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late, Henry Harvey and Katie Elizabeth Crisp Simons. Following the death of her mother at an early age, Cleo moved to Greene County where she was reared by her uncle and aunt, J.M “Bill” and Bettie Crisp Albritton. Her Uncle Bill and Aunt Bettie succeeded in giving her one of life’s greatest privileges: a happy childhood in a loving home.
After graduation from Snow Hill High School, Cleo completed her undergraduate studies in education at what is today East Carolina University. She retired from the Greene County Schools following a career that spanned 30 years where she taught English and reading. While a teacher by occupation, her greatest and most cherished vocation was as a homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Cleo was a member of Free Union OFWB Church where she taught Sunday School for many years and regularly attended until declining health rendered her homebound.
In addition to her parents and special uncle and aunt, Cleo is also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Luther Franklin Beaman, who died in 2009; and brothers, Johnny Simons and Cecil Simons.
Her surviving family includes her children Brenda Beaman Wooten and husband Jimmy, Elaine Beaman, and Frankie Beaman and wife Cindy, all of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Everett Wooten and wife Shawna of Snow Hill, Patrick Wooten and wife Laura of Wake Forest, Matt Beaman and wife Lindsey of Snow Hill and Kristin Beaman of Snow Hill; great-grandchildren, Ele Wooten and Thomas Beaman, both of Snow Hill, and Hannah Wooten and Hayden Wooten, both of Wake Forest; and a sister, Edith Simons Stewart of Greenville.
Funeral services will be held graveside 10 AM Wednesday, June 20, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Reverend Stephen Prescott and Reverend Jonathan Whitford officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 PM at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed to the Greene County Friends of the Library, 229 Kingold Blvd Suite G, Snow Hill, NC 28580. Online condolences at www.taylor-tyson.com

Celebrating the life of Cleo S. Beaman
Thank you for signing Cleo S. Beaman's Guestbook
Sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs. Cleo. She was such a sweet lady. I remember her fondly from Jr. High. She would read passages from the Bible in the morning before we went to our classes. A very kind soul that I am glad I had the pleasure to know. Prayers for the family.

Sorry to hear of the passing of Mrs.Beamon, she was a very kind and loving lady she had a heart full of gold and didn't play with her students. My mother Ida was her caregiver until she passed away. I know how much love my mom had for her. She will truly be missed!
