Elwood Harrison



Mr. Henry Elwood Harrison, 73, passed away Wednesday evening, September 20, 2017, at his home. A native and lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born December 14, 1943, the son of Lloyd H. and Mary Louise Edwards Harrison. A graduate of Greene Central High School, Elwood possessed a passion for the land and actively farmed until retirement in addition to a full career at E.I. DuPont in Kinston. An avid hunter, he established Stoney Creek Hunting Preserve and for the last several years hosted an annual pheasant hunt for the benefit of the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. He attended Mt. Calvary FWB Church in Hookerton, was a Mason and member of Jerusalem Lodge #95 in Hookerton, and was a Shriner.

In addition to his parents, Elwood was preceded in death by a son, Christopher “Chris” Elwood Harrison.

His surviving family includes his childhood sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Hardy Harrison; daughter, Lorri Harrison Cannon and husband, Roger; grandchildren, Haley Dare Cannon and Kristen Paige Cannon; sisters, Vicky Harrison Wise and Mary Lou Harrison Jones, all of whom reside in Snow Hill; and a brother, J.L. Harrison and wife, Faye of Newport News, VA.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 23, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with the Reverend Frank Rice officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends 6 -8 PM Friday, September 22, at the funeral home and other times at the Harrison residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his memory may be directed to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607 or to the Boys and Girls Home of NC, PO Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450.
