Mr. Colin Smith Murphrey, 64, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at his residence. Colin was born December 11, 1953, the son of Durward R. Murphrey, Sr. and Cornelia M. Murphrey.
Colin is preceded in death by his father; paternal grandparents, Durward B. and Nolah S. Murphrey and maternal grandparents, Elvin W. and Louise Meeks Mills.
He leaves to cherish his memory a wife, Joanna Carraway Murphrey; mother, Cornelia M. Murphrey; sons, Thomas Murphrey and wife Jamye of Goldsboro, and Kevin Murphrey and wife Jessica of Raleigh; and a grandson, Rowan James Murphrey. Additional survivors include his brothers, Durward R. Murphrey Jr, Neal Murphrey and wife Mollie, and Kelly Murphrey and wife Wanda; a sister, Donna Haggerty and husband Ed; sister-in-law, Patsy Ransom; and many special nephews and a niece. He leaves behind his cherished hunting and fishing buddies of Pollocks Ferry Hunting Club in Scotland Neck and his fellow colleagues at Greene Correctional where he served as a Food Service Manager from 1992 until his retirement in 2015.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM Thursday, June 28, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Reverend Sam Loy and Reverend Jamie Thompson officiating. Interment will immediately follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Thursday one hour prior to the service from 2 – 2:45 PM and other times at the Murphrey residence. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Road SW, Lilburn GA 30047. Online condolences at www.taylor-tyson.com

Colin Murphrey was a very special co-worker. I, Sherry Turner, had the privilege to work with FSA Murphrey from 1994 until he had retired in 2015. My heartfelt Sympathy to his family, friends and co-workers who had the blessing of working with such a good man.
