Mrs. Lucy Hart Hill, age 85, of Hookerton, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 20, 2018, at her residence. A native of Greene County, she was born November 6, 1932, the daughter of Raymond Elias and Mary Gay Hart. Lucy was the Salutatorian of her graduating class of Snow Hill High School and was an outstanding player on the Girls Basketball team serving as its captain. Upon marriage to her late husband, Robert O’Neil Hill Sr, she quickly became a consummate homemaker and cherished her role as a mother. A lady of strong Christian faith, she was a charter member of Mt. Calvary FWB Church in Hookerton and taught Sunday School there for more than thirty years. She possessed a special love for her church and its people.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; a grandson, Robert O’Neil Hill III; and all of her siblings with the exception of her youngest brother, Dewey Wallace Hart who resides in Hookerton and visited his sister every week.
In addition to her surviving brother, are her children Robert O’Neil Hill, Jr. and wife Nina Markham Hill of Wilmington, Raymond Gregg Hill and wife Marsha Gray Hill of Boynton Beach, Florida, and Stephen Britt Hill and wife Holly Dennis Hill of Kinston; grandchildren, Raymond Gregg Hill Jr, Cameron Gray Hill and Andrew Gene Hill all of Orlando, Lauren Hill Kelso and Brittany Hill Carter both of Atlanta, Cortney Hill Stallings and Elizabeth Hill Hadley both of Raleigh, Kimberly Hill of Wilmington, Caroline Hill Mooring, Claire Elizabeth Hill and Abigail Hill Means all of Kinston; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hill had several devoted caregivers that attentively cared for her. They include Doretha Suggs, Frances Rouse, Audrey Batten, Rachel Rogers, Denise Rogers, LaWanda Simmons and Wanda Johnson. The family extends their sincere appreciation to each of you for your loving kindness and thoughtful care.
A service to celebrate her life will be held 10 AM Friday, June 29, at Mt. Calvary FWB Church, 532 E. Main Street, Hookerton, NC, with Pastor Frank Rice officiating. The family will receive friends and extended family immediately following the service. Committal services will be held privately at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
