Mrs. Barbara Wade Taylor, 72, died Thursday morning, January 4, 2018, at her home. A native of Lenoir County, she was born November 7, 1945, the daughter of Henry Mark and Fruzzie Gilbert Wade. Following graduation from Contentnea High School she earned her nursing degree and became a Registered Nurse. Barbara’s career included many years in clinical nursing at the former Pitt Memorial Hospital and additionally several years in nursing and health care education. Barbara taught at Lenoir Community College in the nursing program and also in the Greene and Pitt County schools in the HOSA program. She attended Bethany OFWB Church until declining health rendered her home bound and had previously been an active member at Temple FWB Church where she was very involved with the youth ministry.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Leland T. Taylor of the home; daughters, Jeanie Taylor of Ormondsville and Teresa Taylor Sousa and husband, Douglas of Havelock; grandson, Matthew Sousa and fiancé, Destiny Blackstone of Havelock; sister, Shirley Thompson and husband, Virgil of Cove City; brother, Charles Wade and wife, Martha of Kinston; a devoted niece, Virginia Gray and husband, Lee of Institute; devoted great-nephew, Jeremy McLawhorn of Snow Hill. Additionally, she leaves many other nieces and nephews to cherish her memory. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Sherman Wade, Henry Wade, Bobby Wade, Douglas Wade, Rufus Wade, Roy Lee Wade, Pattie Mae Wade, Hilda W. Lewis and Marie W. Clayborne.
Funeral services for Mrs. Taylor will be held 4 PM Sunday, January 7th, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Reverend Glenn Batten officiating. Committal services will be held 11 AM Monday, January 8th, at the Snow Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Sunday one hour prior to the service and other times at the Taylor residence, 5603 Hwy 903 N, Snow Hill. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Bethany OFWB Church, 4256 Hwy 903 S, Winterville, NC 28590. Additionally, the family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to Pruitt Hospice for the care and aide they rendered to Mrs. Taylor during her extended illness.

So sorry to hear of Barbara's passing.I first met Barbara at a Health Occupations Teacher Conference. Barbara had such a wonderful, kind spirit and was a great mentor and friend in Health Occupations and NCHOETA. She definitely made an impact in many people's lives. Prayers of comfort for the family.
