Obituary

Mr. Linwood Earl Radford, known by most as simply “Lin”, passed away Thursday afternoon, November 2, 2017, at the age of 82. A native of Greene County, he was born November 25, 1934, the son of Frank and Corrine Sumrell Radford. Following high school, Lin eventually began a career with E.I. DuPont in Kinston from which he retired; additionally, he retired from the NC National Guard. Lin loved his community and dedicated much time to the recreational programs of the schools and county, having served as a President of the G.C. Booster Club, coached recreation baseball, and worked tirelessly raising funds for expansion of the school’s athletic complexes. In recognition of his devoted service, he had received the Governor’s Award for Volunteerism. Lin was a lifelong member of Harrell’s Chapel OFWB Church where he served as the treasurer for more than 38 years.

In addition to his parents, Lin was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Radford Mooring; and brothers, Kenneth Radford and Ed Radford.

His surviving family includes his devoted wife, Sudie Carraway Radford; daughters, Susie Radford Mercer and husband, Steve of Walstonburg, and Lisa Radford May and husband, Ervin of LaGrange; a son, Linwood E. “Shorty” Radford, Jr. and friend, Tracey Johnson of Hookerton; grandchildren, Ritchie Radford and wife, Stephanie, Jeffrey Radford, Steve Ford and wife, Crystal, and Lindsey May; great-grandchildren, Reagan Radford, Reid Radford, Amyah Blanchard, and Isabella Ford; and sister-in-law, Katie C. Radford.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, November 5th, at Harrell’s Chapel OFWB Church with Reverend Ronnie Mohn officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service and other times at the residence.
