Mrs. Eula Grace (Monroe) Sugg died Monday morning, May 14, 2018, at the age of 90. A native of Greene County, she was born August 23, 1927, the daughter of Edward and Rosa Bright Sugg. Always a person of good intellect and work ethic, she was a stellar student graduating from the Hookerton High School where she was in the top of her class. Grace was a consummate homemaker and cherished her roles as a wife, mother and grandmother; never one to be idle she relished maintaining her yard and home doing most of the work herself. She retired from the Kinston Shirt Company where she worked for more than 38 years and was a member of Rainbow United Methodist Church.
Widowed at an early age, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Jack Monroe. Others preceding her in death include a second husband, Harper Sugg; a granddaughter, Heather Pipkin; and a special longtime friend, Melvin Oliver.
Surviving are her children, Jackie Monroe Parrott and husband, Billy of Kinston, Brenda Monroe Bagley of Snow Hill, and Alton “Al” Monroe and wife, Jane of Snow Hill; grandchildren, Stephanie Head and husband, Chris of Snow Hill, Jack Monroe of Orlando, Florida, and David Monroe and wife, Melissa of Coppell, Texas; great-grandsons, Josh Head, Jacob Head, and Grayson Monroe; and a great-granddaughter scheduled to be born May 15th, to be appropriately named, Stella Grace Monroe.
A Service of Death and Resurrection celebrating Grace’s life will be held 2 PM Wednesday, May 16th, at Rainbow UMC with Reverend Patrick Keely officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service and other times at the home of Brenda M. Bagley, 202 SE First St, Snow Hill, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rainbow UMC, c/o Ray Pridgen, 704 Greenridge Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580. Online condolences at www.taylor-tyson.com
