Mr. Jerome Darden Harrison, 85, passed away early Saturday morning, March 24, 2018. A native of Greene County, he was born April 13, 1932, the son of Fred W. and Addie Sowers Harrison. Following high school, Jerome began a twenty-year career in the US Navy. A dental technician by trade, he both worked with dentists and operated his own dental lab in the Raleigh-Durham area prior to his retirement. Upon the death of his beloved wife, Emma Potts Harrison in 1995, he divided his time between residences in the Arba community of Greene County and on the Calico Creek in Morehead City.
Jerome loved to travel and took many trips during his retirement years throughout the United States and internationally. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, a providing and loving father to his children, and a doting grandfather and “DD” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jerome was blessed with a life well lived; he is now reunited with his sweetheart and true love, Emma, and his cherished basset hound, Polly.
Left to cherish his memory and revel in the many stories of his life are daughters, Patricia Ann Saunders Stowe (Samuel) of Raleigh, Jo Ann Harrison Reed (Terry) of Concord, and Jenny Harrison Rankin (Edward “Mick”) of Wilson; son, Jerome D. “Jerry” Harrison, Jr (Sherry) of Morehead; grandchildren, Christopher Saunders (Rachel) of California, Charlotte F. Stowe of Chapel Hill, Alan Reed (Valerie) of Atlanta, Susan Reed Gehrke (Travis) of Harrisburg, Sara Reed Garber of Davidson, Dennis Allen Rankin (Crystal) of Morehead, Nancy Cattrell (Steve) of Raleigh, Elizabeth Rankin of Wilson, Dylan Finch (fiancé, Ashley) of Raleigh, and Lindsay Finch of Wisconsin; great-grandchildren, Ella Jane Garber, Caroline Darden Garber, Adelyn Gehrke, Grant Thomas Reed, Noah Harrison Reed, Brody Jackson, Emma Rankin and Amelia Cattrell; and his brothers, Fred W. Harrison of Kinston, Phillip Harrison (Mary Ann), Charles Harrison (Edith), and Chester Harrison (Dorothy), all of Snow Hill.
The family will receive family and friends 6 – 8 PM on Wednesday, March 28, at Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service in Snow Hill. In keeping with Jerome’s wishes, no formal services will be held otherwise.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Arba Volunteer Fire Department, 2001 Jesse Hill Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580. Online condolences at www.taylor-tyson.com

JD came in to the office in Raleigh with a neck brace and I was wearing an animal print Christmas hat. He took my hat and wore it home. Said he needed something new to wear for Christmas. I will miss his quirky sense of humor.

JD Harrison, what a character! With his mischievous smile, love of life and contagious personality, he could brighten any corner. One couldn't be around him long without realizing his love for his family and friends. He also loved adventure and believed in living life to the fullest. JD realized he was mortal and knew it would one day come to an end, and his goal was to leave with few regrets. I believe he did that and in doing so left each of us a pattern in which follow.
Rest in peace JD and enjoy this next journey!
We will miss you!
