Obituary

Douglas McLawhorn passed away December 13, 2017 after a short battle with lung cancer. Born in Lenior County on September 14,1935, he was the fourth child of Fonnie and Herman McLawhorn.

He married Joan Eason in 1959 and they shared a wonderful, devoted marriage for 58 years. Douglas retired from E.I. DuPont after 33 years of service. A faithful member of Hookerton Christian Church, Douglas had served as Elder and Chair of the Board. He was formerly a longtime volunteer with the Hookerton Volunteer Fire Department including serving as chief and was a member of Grifton Masonic Lodge 243. He served in the first Snow Hill National Guard founded in 1955 alongside some of Greene County’s finest young men of that time.

Family meant everything to Douglas. He was always there to share in joys and support in times of sorrow with those he loved. Surviving him, including his wife Joan, are daughter Donna of Snow Hill; a son Jamie and his wife, Hunter of Charlotte; grandchildren, of whom Douglas was quite proud, Bess, Molly and Jack, all of Charlotte; his brother Herman H. McLawhorn (Bonnie); sisters, Peggy Creech and Joyce Moore; and a number of nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Kenneth; four half-sisters, and one half-brother.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Monday, December 18, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Pastor Charlie Greene officiating. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends on Monday one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence, 69 Lloyd Harrison Road, Snow Hill, NC.
