Harvey L. Sugg



Mr. Harvey Lee Sugg, 90, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the NC State Veterans Home in Kinston. A native of Greene County, he was born September 13, 1927, the eldest son of Harvey and Dora Dudley Sugg. A veteran, he had served in the US Army during WWII. Harvey Lee and his late wife, Helen Louise Christman Sugg, established their home and reared their children on the very farm of which he grew up. A man of many talents, Harvey Lee was a gifted craftsman, bluegrass musician with the Tri-County Band, and possessed a great knowledge of general merchandise that he used in business with his brother at Sugg Hardware. A professional commercial driver, Harvey Lee drove many trucks throughout the years but found his greatest enjoyment as a professional bus driver primarily with LaGrange Bus Company. During his career, Harvey Lee completed more than 4 million accident free miles. He was a member of Rainbow United Methodist Church where he served in several church offices and was a member of the choir.

In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Sugg Kornegay; granddaughter, Karen Kornegay; and his brothers, Kenneth D. Sugg and Peery Sugg.

Surviving are his daughters, Dr. Toni Sugg and special friend, Nancy Alton of Hillsborough, Liz Sugg Watkins and husband, John of Semora, and Jo Sugg Lloyd and special friend, Ric Hunter of Clayton; a son-in-law, Jackie Kornegay of Dudley; and grandchildren, Kim Brock and husband, Nickie, Kevin Kornegay, Geoff Watkins, Christina Lloyd McKay and husband, Duane, and Jeremy Lloyd; great-grandchildren, Courtney Brock and Maddi McKay; and for the past 10 years, a special dear friend, Eleanor Carraway. Additionally, he is survived by 3 nieces, 3 nephews, and a special niece, Cheryl Mozingo.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Saturday, December 2, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. Interment will immediately follow at the Sugg Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 – 8 PM and other times at the Sugg residence.
