Mrs. TaLitha Mae Shirley Britt, 92, passed away Saturday morning, July 1, 2017, at Greendale Forest Nursing Center. A native of Greene County, she was born May 8, 1925, the daughter of Henry Clayton and Bessie Beaman Shirley. Mae graduated from Walstonburg High School and King’s Business College of Raleigh; she was a member of Free Union OFWB Church, the Friendship Circle, and the VFW Auxiliary.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Allen Britt; son, Bobby Al Britt; siblings, George, Phillip, Maylon, and Ed Shirley; and a great-grandchild, Trey Sumrell.
Her surviving family includes her daughter, Trudy Britt Hardy; grandchildren, John Stelma, Britt Hardy, Robby Britt (Eden), Richie Britt, Tracey Sumrell (Bill), Jena Snyder (Dan), Blake Whaley (Nick), 18 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Molene Corbett; and other immediate family, Barbara and Bill Adams; lifelong friend, Grace Shelton; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins of the Britt, Shirley and Beaman families.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 7 PM Wednesday, July 5, at Free Union OFWB Church with Reverends Stephen Prescott and Phil Wood officiating. Committal Services will follow at 3 PM Thursday, July 6, at the Snow Hill Cemetery with Reverend Tony Glass officiating.
The family extends an invitation to join them in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service. Other times the family will be at the home of Trudy B. Hardy, 103 N. Greene Street, Snow Hill, NC.

"Mrs. Britt" was such special lady! I have fond memories being at her home growing up that I cherish. I never knew we were notactually related until I was older because she always made me feel like family. Trudy- you know you are so special to me as well as my family. You and Britt, as well as the rest of your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
