Mrs. Cleo West McKeel, 77, passed away Friday, April 7, 2017, with her family at her side. A native of Greene County, she was born September 2, 1939, the daughter of Arthur George and Queenie Heath West.
Cleo was a graduate of the Snow Hill High School and longtime member of Lebanon UMC where she had previously served as choir leader for 30 years. Her professional career was concentrated in the courts of Greene County where she held the distinction of being the first appointed and elected female Clerk of Superior Court. Throughout her life, professional and personal, a genuine pleasantness, a big smile, and a steadfast determination, were not only her trademarks but the embodiment of her character.
In addition to her parents, Cleo was preceded in death by a son who died early in his life, “Little” Jerry McKeel; and all of her siblings which include, Vick Jones, Imogene Rouse, Louise Williamson, Geraldine West, Judy Baxter, Mack West and Ronald West.
Surviving are her devoted husband, Jerry T. McKeel; son, Walter Thomas McKeel; and grandchildren, Cory Thomas McKeel and Abigail Ross McKeel.
A graveside service will be held 11 AM Monday, April 10, at the Stantonsburg Cemetery with Reverend Bobby Heath officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following at the grave side.

May God bless and keep you all in your time of sorrow. I always admired Cleo. She was an outstanding lady who never saw a stranger. She always had a smile and a word for everyone. She was a strong lady who fought through all the obstacles and came out a winner. Peace be to uou all.
