Mrs. Valeria Hart Head Smith, 91, died Thursday evening, April 6, 2017, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. A native of Greene County, she was born February 12, 1926, the daughter of Raymond Elias and Mary Ethel Gay Hart. A graduate of the Snow Hill High School, Valeria was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an active member of Harrell’s Chapel OFWB Church where she attended from birth.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Jim Head and H.B. Smith; a daughter, Kathy Head Scott; step-daughter, Sonya Walker; and siblings, Doris Moore, Edna Frazier, Cleo Cress, Celia Wade, Virgil Hart, Raymond Hart Jr, Buren Hart and Wayne Hart.
Her surviving family includes her children, Larry V. Head and wife, Sarah of Hookerton, and Loretta Head Cox and husband, Buck of Snow Hill; siblings, Lucy Hart Hill and Dewey W. Hart, both of Hookerton; step-children, Ennette Thomas and husband, Glen of Emerald Isle and Ben Smith and wife, Dori of Fremont; grandchildren, Vance Head and wife, Beth of Grifton, Jason Head and wife, Anna of Ormondsville, Lenny Cox and friend, Misty of Hookerton, and Lesley Cox of Kinston; great-grandchildren, Mason, James, Allana, Elizabeth, Mary Carson, Gray, Katelyn and Payton; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, April 9, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service. Interment will follow at the Snow Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 6 – 8 PM at the funeral home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Harrell’s Chapel Building Fund, c/o Arlene McCoy Harper, 78 Dixon Road, Snow Hill, NC 28580. Online condolences at www.taylor-tyson.com

Larry & Loretta, I am so sorry to hear of your Aunt Valeria's passing. I will miss talking to her on the phone when I'm at mama's. She was a very sweet lady and we will all miss her. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
