Mrs. Martha Lee Sutton Johnson, 91, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017. Born April 10, 1925 to Jim and Martha Taylor Sutton, she was the last of their surviving children. Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Greene County and longtime member of Free Gospel PFWB Church. A homemaker and farmer’s wife, she was very devoted to both her immediate and extended family.
In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Cornelius Johnson; and a grandson, Danny McNeil “Neil” Johnson.
Her surviving family includes her son, Danny Johnson and wife, Janice of Snow Hill; grandsons, Allen Johnson and wife, Michelle of Goldsboro and Jay Tyson and wife, Mary of Farmville; great-grandchildren, Brittany Johnson, Seth Johnson, Sydney Johnson, Anna Tyson and Chelsea Tyson; one great-great-grandchild, Jayden; sisters-in-law, Evelyn J. Chase of Snow Hill, Blanche J. Head of Newport News, VA, and Rose Sutton of Elm City who was especially devoted to Mrs. Johnson; and several nieces and nephews of the Sutton and Johnson families.
Funeral Services will be held 7 PM Saturday, March 18, at the chapel of Taylor-Tyson Funeral Service with Reverend Danny Hamm and Reverend Doug Johnson officiating. Committal Services will be held 2 PM Sunday, March 19, at the Snow Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Saturday and other times at the home of Danny and Janice Johnson, 22 Mooring Lane, Snow Hill. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 102 Handley Park Court, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of both Snow Hill Assisted Living Center and Kitty Askins Hospice Center for their kindness and care to Mrs. Johnson.

Aunt Martha Lee was such a sweet lady. We always loved going to visit her and Uncle Cornelius. She will be missed. I can't go to the funeral because I'm sick but my thoughts and prayers are with you all. I love you.
